Living and working in Delhi has been an amazing and new experience! During my time here, I have able to explore different monuments and historic places. In my very first week I visited the Lodi Garden, which is a city park spread over 360,000m2, filled with nature and relaxing vibes. Historically, it is also very relevant because it contains the tombs of different rulers and kings of northern India between the period 1451 and 1526.
A few weeks later, one of my friends from the program visited Delhi, so it was a nice opportunity to get to know a bit more about the city with her. Together, we went to Humayun’s Tomb, the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent built in 1570.
Right after Humayun’s Tomb, we went to the Red Fort, another classic in Old Delhi. The fort was built in 1648, and it served as the main residence of the Mughal Emperors, when they decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Although the entrance can be very chaotic, once you enter it is pleasant, there is a lot of space to walk, and many green spaces inside. Later I learnt that every year on India’s Independence Day (August 15th), the Prime Minister hoists the Indian flag at the fort’s main gate.
